YT video download: a practical format and saving guide

Copy the individual video link

Open the video and copy its watch-page address or youtu.be share link. A channel, search page, or playlist does not select the individual video you want. If your link came from a playlist, open the intended video and copy its own URL. Check the title shown after fetching before you prepare a file.

Fetch formats before choosing quality

Paste the link into the YouTube downloader and select Fetch video. Compare the quality, type, and file size in the results. The list comes from the source, so a particular resolution is not guaranteed. A higher resolution can help with small on-screen text, but it cannot add detail that the source video never contained.

Check whether your selection includes sound

Choose Video + Audio when you want a normal viewing copy with sound and that option is offered. Video only does not contain an audio track. For listening, select an available audio-only option such as MP3 or M4A. Do not assume the highest video resolution includes sound; read the type label beside that specific format.

Start processing and the browser download

Select Download once for your chosen format. The button shows Processing, then Downloading now as the site attempts the browser download automatically. If your browser blocks the automatic download, retry with Save file. Your browser controls the destination; check its downloads list to confirm completion. Sizes marked with ~ are estimates; the exact size appears after processing. Files must be within 500 MB and videos within 2 hours. Choose a smaller offered format if needed; prepared files are temporary.

Respond to the specific error

For an invalid link, copy the individual video's address again. For missing formats, confirm the source still contains the video. Removed, sign-in-only, protected, or otherwise restricted content cannot be fetched through this public-link workflow. A public link can also fail because the source temporarily limits requests. Wait before retrying rather than repeatedly submitting the same link.

Why are 1080p, 2K or 4K missing?

Check the video's own YouTube quality menu first. For example, a Short whose highest current source tier is 720p will only show 720p among this tool's supported HD choices. Vertical framing alone does not establish Full HD or 4K.

When a higher source tier is available, compare its size and sound label. A source format estimated above 500 MB is disabled by the service limit. Missing source quality and an oversized available file are different situations; choosing another video or a smaller offered format may be necessary.
